After opening schools for Columbian children, Shakira has now taken up a battle against Child Labour in Southern Cone Countries of Chile and Argentina. She met presidents Michelle Bachlet and Nestor Kirchner and discussed the problem of Child Labor in Latin America.

She urged Chilean parents to make sure their children attend school and commended Chile’s progress in the fight against child labor.

“There are 40 million children in Latin America that work in the streets…The statistics in Chile, where 200,000 children work, are improving in comparison to other countries in the region,” she revealed.

Shakira said that she thought Chile could win the battle against child labor.

“If it does, it will be tremendously inspiring for Latin America, especially for my home country of Colombia where over two million children don’t attend school,” she said.

President Bachelet was quite impressed with Shakira and was quick to praise her efforts. “Shakira is in Chile as more than a great artist,” she said.

“She’s working hard to end child labour, and we spoke about the importance of policies to protect children.”

Shakira is one of the hottest singers in both Latino and English pop industries. She looks stunning and is an amazing performer…and it would have been natural for her to be a fashion icon for the youth, who would imitate her dance moves and emulate her dressing sense.

But Shakira is completely opposite to that image as she reveals,

“I don’t have so many costume changes as many pop artists do onstage, because I’m lazy! I’m not as interested in fashion as people might think. I’m actually going through a phase where I want to free myself from all the pressure that the media puts on you.”

Even then she manages to look stunning on and off stage!

Looking at her chiseled abs that allow her to make those snake like moves and those pelvic thrusts, one must be wondering what on earth does the woman eat to maintain abs like that.

If you thought she turning a vegan had something to do with that…then you are wrong buddy because Shakira couldn’t stay a vegan for long.

She revealed,

“I always try to kind of eat in a balanced way. I became vegetarian not too long ago. But I quit! [Laughs] It only lasted two months.”

Hoping she wasn’t inspired by PETA, what made Shakira go vegan.

She says, “Right after one of my tours, I spent a few months in Spain on a farm. The guy who sells the bread in the town next to my farm gave me three chickens and a rooster. I felt so attached to those chickens that I was thinking, “Oh my God, I’m never gonna eat chicken again! These chickens are my friends!” I gave them names and everything. Then I said, “OK, why eat chickens just because I don’t know them?”

After deciding to open up five schools in her hometown Barranquilla, Columbia, Shakira has been in Chile toh highlight a serious issue of Latin America’s underprivileged youth and their poverty.

She had also met President Michelle Bachelet and they discussed about keeping the kids off the streets and into schools and other places that could give them a healthier and happier childhood.

Apparently Shakira has been performing a number of sell-out shows where tickets have been changing hands for over £200.

She has been concentrating equally on her responsibilities as a Latin American as she had been concentrating on her music career. We wish her all success if its gonna benefit so many underprivileged children and families in Latin America.

Shakira has proved her worth as a singer and a performer by sweeping the Latin Grammys…but I really think the woman is kinda getting monotonous now.

Her songs are nevertheless alright but her belly-dancing stuff and her snake-live grooves are getting a bit too monotonous. Especially after you see her do the same thing again and again in every performance.

She is a great talent, a superb singer and an entertaining performer…I’m sure she would be definitely able to come up with great stuff…provided she thinks out of the box now…its high time!

Looks like Shakira not only wants to live up to her nation’s expectations as a singer but also as a socially responsible citizen of Columbia. Thankfully she has not adopted an orphan rather she has planned to open a school for nearly 2000 pupils in her hometown Barranquilla.

“Education is not a luxury, it is a right everyone should have,” Shakira told reporters before a concert that will raise funds for the Barranquilla school.

Local schools, like Colegio El Canahuate are run-down, overcrowded and lacking basic facilities. Many residents hope Shakira’s new project will change that.

“This school is so small, we have to perform magic here,” said director Aldor Carrillo, who has scores of displaced children in his school. The street outside is the soccer pitch, where they do sports, gym and where they hold their social events.”

The Pies Descalzos Foundation says that Shakira’s new school will initially house 1,800 pupils when it opens in early 2008.

Now you see why they have immortalized a young pop singer with a statue…she is definitely worth that!

Thank God Shakira got rid of that stupid perm and that dumb-blonde hair color that she had when she hit the world with ‘Whenever Wherever’. The brunette hair color and her soft curls look amazing on her…I think she looks her all-time best with her current look!

She looked gorgeous at the Latin Grammy Awards dressed in a black gown. Now you see what has kept De Le Rua hooked on to Shakira for over 5 years now.

Shakira has shaken her hips and squeezed into our hearts for sure… her looks, her groovy moves made my heart go pit pat at least!!!! N trust me, coz I identify with her as when I say that…

Alright, I just meant to say that I, like her hips, DON”T LIE

But every good force needs to be strongly channellized in order to reach its target… and Shakira’s in-comprehendible lyrics had to be driven into every home to drive her to success!!!!

One such force which helped her as an entrant into the industry was 3, the mobile media company… it was her videos which flashed on every multimedia mobile handset and 3 was more or less responsible for that! And it’s not just her… 3 has already been instrumental in helping artists such as Chamillionaire, Gnarls Barklay and James Blunt too feature in the list of celebs who got famous with the help of 3…

Time you gave them some credit Shakira…

Native city Barranquila gyrates with crooner Shakira!

After rocking Venezuela and President Hugo Chavez, Shakira did a benefit concert at Barranquilla , her home town and completely loved the experience.

She was quoted saying,

“This great place nourished me, forged me as a human being, as a woman and also as an artist, and coming back means being able to see all the people from whom I learned so much and to say thank you and pay homage to my land.”

Im sure Barranquila was twice as delighted as Shakira to have her there…Her popularity in Columbia is soaring and she was also payed a tribute with a life size statue of hers being put up by her fans in her homeland.
